I'm getting ready to prune my Amorpha Fruticosa (False Indigo). This is a rare bush/tree with mimosa-like foliage and orange and dark purple, almost chocolate, blooms that remind me of a butterfly bush. It's hardy in zones 2 - 8. A picture of mine is below.
It attracts butterflies and moths, and can be propagated by by soft or hardwood cuttings, so the net says. This site tells how to plant, maintain and propagate this plant:

Each trade will be 5 cuttings. I'm looking for unusual daylilies, unusual perennials, climbing roses, sedums, trees and shrubs. See my previous post on this forum for a full list of what I'm looking for. I'm NOT looking for cuttings as I don't have time to root and pamper anything.
If you're interested in trading for some Amorpha cuttings, let me know soon. I'll be cutting back the bush this week.

CLOSED: Amorpha Fruticosa Anyone?
Hi, These grow wild down here by Lake Cumberland in great quanity.
I have lots of seeds.
Marti I might like to have some seeds...will Dmail you!
Mine never makes seeds. I hear AF does, but I've never gotten a single seed pod from mine although I see butterflies on it all the time.
Interesting plant, but like yourself, I don't have the time to root and pamper anything either. Only cutting I deemed worthy of trying to root this year was a branch from a tree peony.
I'm going to try to root some of the cuttings myself. They're supposed to be easy, so we'll see. I'm not good at rooting anything but sedums. But I love this shrub and would like to have a few more throughout my gardens. The branch I trimmed back in June is now blooming again, so I decided to trim the other branches. It's never produced seeds, altho I hear it's rather seedy and therefore weedy. But I haven't gotten a single seed from it in all the years I've had it. Maybe I have different cultivar than the common Amorpha fruticosa. The butterflies love it.
Let me know if you get any rooted Nancy, I couldn't root mine, you have several plants on your want list I would trade you for it, if it was rooted.
