My Disocactus eichlamii has 3 buds after 2 years of waiting and wondering , both Rhipsadilopsis hybrids are budding (out of season?), and a new plant to me, Rhipsalis elliptica appears to be budding out. August is going to be one colorful month!
Buds everywhere!
very good
Fun stuff !! So do you feel like an übergardner ?? I know I would ... -Jan
Not yet an Ubergardener, but a lucky Epi gardener.
Great buds! We came home from a 5 week vacation out west and I couldn't believe the amount of buds on my epi oxys. I have 5 pots and all but one pot has at least three buds, and I counted 17 on one. I believe August is truly going to be a great epi month! Some of my buds will no doubt drop as they don't seem to be maturing and look pale yellow instead of green. However, between the four I will have enough for one great show.
Jean
The buds on mine have swelled and now I am starting to get expectant of a nice show. Nothing like 17 on one plant though!, best wishes Jean.
great
Oh wow Jean!!!
lovely
Question...I am starting in Orchids...Have a book, been reading...Now..mine have, what looks like, roots on the leaves? are they roots, or spikes? Guess I need a pic of a spike....Please send to my mail, as, I probably wont be able to find my answer...And I really need to know...thanks...
btlr44, are you asking about orchids, or epiphyllums (orchid cactus)? Either way, a picture would be helpful.
the "roots"on the leaves of a epi(orchid cactus) are normal.
Need some advice ? I received four epiphylia (sp?) in a swap. looked like a bunch of sticks in mud. Lo and behold.. one started to bloom and I began learning what exactly I had received !
So excited and patiently awaiting the bloom.
Then I came home one day and the bloom had fallen off. Now it just looks like a stick again!
What did I do wrong? I had been watering profusely after the swap. When Hubby told me they were cactus... I re-potted and put them in sun and seldom watered. We've been having a drought here. Although where they are placed... some sprinklers could have watered them...so confused.
Any help is appreciated !
Mary
MaryandLance, Check the sticky at the top of this page for helpful links about Epiphyllum care. There is a lot of helpful info there.
Jean: That bud reminds me of my Selenicereus which looks similar when it first starts growing and it takes a long time to fatten up before the blooms open. You might just return in time to see the blooms open if it's a slowpoke like the Selenicereus! Please post a photo if you do get to see the opened bloom!
Thank you OCCAROL ! I did check and found an area with directions.... I sure have been doing things ALL wrong! Glad I'm on the right path now before it was too late :o)
You're very welcome! Many that are new to DG don't know what those stickys are there for.
Plantlady: Sure hope you're right about the bud. I know how big my epi buds get and this is nowhere near the size of them. I will keep hoping to see it. It is one that I could never find a picture of and not really much of a description except "Miami Red."
