We are excited to announce that the American Brugmansia and Datura Society (ABADS) will be joining forces with the newly formed International Brugmansia Society (iBrugs). The combined organization will be known as the International Brugmansia and Datura Society, or iBrugs for short (the acronym IBADS is already in use by the Indiana Brewing and Drinking Society).
What does this mean for the worldwide brugmansia community? For starters, the wealth of information compiled by ABADS will be preserved and enhanced. We will continue to register and publish new brugmansia cultivars as the recognized ICRA for Brugmansia. A new searchable database will make research much easier and offer faster cultivar registration submissions. More information on Brugmansia than ever before will be made available free of charge to everyone, and much more.
Our new mission statement says it all:
The mission of the International Brugmansia and Datura Society shall be to foster the culture and cultivation of Brugmansia, and related species, via education, information exchange and fellowship.
The International Brugmansia and Datura Society will also promote public and scientific interest in the research, development, preservation, and distribution of Brugmansia, both natural and hybrid, throughout the world.
While changes and improvements are already underway, it may take some time to redevelop our web presence, activate the new cultivar database, and publish the first edition of our new quarterly full color print journal.
Membership in the International Brugmansia and Datura Society is free to all and is currently available at iBrugs.com. Paid memberships, with expanded benefits, will be accepted later this month. The International Brugmansia and Datura Society will maintain its 501c3 tax-exempt status.
Stay tuned for more exciting news as work progresses.
Anyone interested in helping with the International Brugmansia and Datura Society should email us at info@ibrugs.com.
We hope you share our excitement and will join our growing community of devoted plant lovers interested in Brugmansia.
