mounting a staghorn fern

Dartmouth, NS(Zone 6a)

I have this staghorn fern, and would like to mount it. However, the basal fronds cover almost all of the hanging basket its in...How should I proceed?
Advice please!

Here is an excellent tutorial for you to read - this should guide you:

Thank you! It was harder to split than I expected. I hope I split at the right place. I'm happy with how it looks, now I just hope the plant is happy too...Here is the finished project

Keep it on the cool side and mist it every day until new plates appear - it will most likely lose some fronds, but it will regrow them. Keep us posted on how it did. Congrats on being so brave!

It is a very easy process but definitely keep the plant well watered through the process. I've seen them out in the wild with the base like a sponge full of water. Provided the water is able to drain freely you can't over water them. Yours looks like Platycerium bifurcatum which comes from a generally cooler and moister environment. Species like Platycerium veitchii are more tolerant of drier and hotter environments.

It is Platycerium bifurcatum. Thanks for the advice and I will keep you all updated on its progress :-)
