Two white silkies in a large wire dog crate together. They are less than a year old, the hen has not started laying. The rooster is three months older than the hen.
Why are there SO MANY feathers all around their pen?
Hopefully they will be in the poultry show this Sept. Should they be housed separately until then?
Questions about show birds
I think as they are growing they loose some feathers as new ones come in. We have 5 young Silkies about 4 months old, 4 white and one gray, all are pretty close to show bird quality, there are also feathers all over their pen and they have a good size pen. They by no means are bald, all are super fluffy.
Thanks Smedgekles, yes, they look okay to me. I was holding the rooster last night, and he is so soft, just like satan or silk.
This will be my first time to show any birds. I want to take four. These two whites, a partridge hen, and a splash rooster.
It's only for fun, but who knows? Maybe they'll win something.
Good luck!
