3 new baby peacocks!

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

My peahen Beep, just hatched her second clutch of eggs this morning. Two are very healthy and active, but I noticed the third seemed to be having some problems keeping up. I scooped him up way too easily (baby peacocks are FAST!) and then realised why. He is blind in one eye. Since he was smaller and had this disability, I brought him in and he seems to be perking up. I hope he makes it as it is definately a male and I have people wanting males. (If only they knew what it sounds like in the spring....) It just facinates me that baby peacocks hatch with their wing feathers already in. Beep has them in the garden enclosure now where they are safe, but within a week they will be flying and roosting with her.

It certainly has been a good year for poultry. Very few losses (keep your fingers crossed) and I am getting 7 eggs a day out of 9 hens. One of my brahmas is so broody that she is setting a clutch of wild turkey eggs for me and they should hatch in the next week or so.

Sounds exciting! Pictures? - before they fly out of range.
