I suddenly noticed this in a pot today. It's a Curcuma flaviflora.
I know that name means yellow flower but it sounds like flavor of flowers.

Yup..means Fireball as well..lol...mmm..reminds me of fireball candy..lol..
When I first introduced this many years ago it was just called Fire. Then Tom Wood gave it a tentative ID of C flaviflora. It turns out it didn't have a name at the time and was later published as the new species C rubrobracteata. The type local was in India, but the cultivated clones are from Thailand. I don't think anyone in the US is growing the true C flaviflora.
When it bloomed for the first time I was totally shocked!! I wasn't expecting a bright red ball sitting in the bottom of the pot.
