I was showing a "noisy" pic on another forum. One of the members ran my pic through a noise reduction program called Neat Image. It is free and I use PSE7, so I downloaded the one for Photoshop.
Here is the original image, the one he saw.
Click on it to see the grainy appearance - its called "noise". Especially bad on the right side of the Woodpecker.
Hey guys, I found a great FREE noise reduction program
I figured, hey, lets filter the new one, so I ran the new one through it again. I think it's even a little "cleaner".
Now, compare this one to the original and you will see why I wanted to call this to your attention.
Just thought I'd share it with you all. I understand the free version can't handle a pic greater than 1024, but all mine are re-sized down to 800 anyway. You can buy a version to handle bigger pics, though..

Thanks for the info Hack. I'm going to ask my DH about it. It sure made a difference in your photo.
Thanks Hack! That is awesome!
Can be useful, but bear in mind it makes the pic less sharp, more blurred

True, that's why I'm only going to use it for real noisy pics. I also understand you can select to only do the background, but I haven't gotten that far yet.
