richard had some extremely interesting variegated ones....some which i know r just "his"...absolutely incredible!
OH, by the way Nadine, the correct name is;
Curcuma petiolata 'Gingerland Snowdrift'
Grown & introduced by; Richard O'Brien
this is Tim Chapmans new website. http://www.gingerwoodnursery.com/
He was lucky enough to get some of the gingers
that were supposed to be for me only.
wow!! richard...i am ALMOST impressed with myself!
i thought it LOOKED familiar...or very CLOSE to those you showed us yesterday... that were so lovely!
I had Purple Prince but it did not come back from the Winter from hell last year. Maggi just came home from Nadines and she has me a new one, yea!!!!!!!!!
LOLOLOLOL..a kid in the candy store..huh..kenboy...
Thank you, Richard...for the correction..I didn't want to say anything until you said something first..about this Curcuma. ..You have all the credit in my book about this ginger !!!
it was a sight to "behold" to see it's parents!! LOL!! ahhhh...an "arranged" marriage!
Hahahahaha..yup..that is funny...
Thanks Nadine, It was just supposed to be introduced by me.....I am happy that a few are out there. I am only Disappointed in the lies I was told by the past owner of Agristarts tissue culture lab. It is difficult to take someones word these days. They were in such a hurry to sell them, they could not even get the name correct.
OH Well, I hope yours does very well !
yes, richard...and a few of US are awaiting MORE to be out there. they were by far for me, being a variegation freak,...where the most outstanding in the variegation department!! striking!!
Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know that Tim Chapman is selling some of the
plants from tissue culture.
http://www.gingerwoodnursery.com/
richard...i have a couple of musa tissue samples and i'm nursing along...i'm SCARED!!!!!!.....it's kinda like having taking a puppy away from it's mommy before it's done nursing...LOL!!!!!
put i'm checking out the site anyway...i'd rather wait for you myself...
richard, does it flower easily? What color? Was it a sport or from seed originally? Thanks,
Barbara
Hi Barbara, My 2 oldest plants are flowering now, same flower as Curcuma Emperor, I will post pics in a few days. It was a sport from Emperor about 6 years ago. I took it to Agristarts tissue culture lab, after growing it for 2 years to make sure it came back true, & I was told after waiting for a year, that they did not make it in TC, too much variegation.. Then I find out 2 years later, they are selling them. I was supposed to receive the first batch, before any hit the market.....but that DID NOT HAPPEN. I do not sell the ones I have, that is why I put Tims site on here. He is one of the lucky ones to get the babies.
Sorry that happened. Very nice plant. Please do post photos.
Hi Richard, you may not remember me but you and your wife came to my house several years ago now and we traded some gingers. I was wondering actually why you had disappeared from the local plant scene here, like Kanapaha Gardens Spring Fest and somesuch.
Your variegated curcuma is da bomb, and I can understand any probs u r having with Ag starts. I had a friend in lower FL who had a variegated Basjoo banana he tried to have them work on and introduce and it didn;t go so well to say the least, LOL. If it had he would have been rich and we would have had an alternative to Ae Ae. We miss Gingerland at our local sales can you PLEEZE come back????????????
goth.....i think there is one...i do have one from thiland...un-named as far as i know...the variegation is not as "strong" as the ae ae......i have another closer pic...now this musa was supposed to have been a cultivator with yellow and green ...NOT...but it's not as sensitive as the ae ae ....yet...ironically is a slower grower??
richard....did i see any musa there?? or were you hiding them??
Hi Gothqueen, You have the REAL NICE greenhouse in Gainesville? Well I have been trying to find you. I got red & yellow waxy & emerald chalice & .....
Well there has not been a wife for 2 & 1/2 years now, Thank God she is gone !, she is off somewhere doing her meth.... I went back to work full time & have been unable to do plant shows.
I still grow gingers...the nursery was closed for a year. I started a new one & named it 'The Ginger Grower Nursery', I am selling the property & will be closing the nursery, but will continue collecting gingers.
Well I am sorry to hear about your misfortunes, but glad that you still grow and collect gingers!
