need help

Blackshear, GA

I posted this before, but didn't really get a response. I want to separate these babies, but not quite sure how to go about it. Can anyone give me some pointers...

I'm no expert --often in error, but seldom in doubt about how to do such things.

That said...

First, I'd let it dry out a bit --no watering for a couple days-- so you can more easily ...

...Next, lift the entire plant up and out of the pot, setting it on a large pot saucer, or a tarp.

Then, with a spray nozzle, starting on one side of the de-potted soil mass, use the minimal pressure necessary to wash some soil away from the coiled stems and roots. Do this until you can see clearly enough where to perform "surgery".

You might see a spot where you could separate the plant into two or more fairly large and mature plants. You might prefer to look for where you can simply cutt off smaller, less mature pups by themselves. I think either approach will work, as long as you don't cut pieces so small and young that they're not ready to send out roots on their own.

EIther way, once you're done, use the soil you've washed off the root ball, or suitable new soil, to restore the original plant and to provide a good new setting for the cuttings.

If you're afdraid the cuttings you make are too small, I think you can simply put them in water for a while, maybe adding a little bit of root hormone (shouldn't be necessary, but can't hurt, can it?). Let the cutting grow some roots, then pot it in sterilized soil.

Also, if you cut through large stem sections, sprinkle a load of ground cinammon on the exposed area before repotting.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Thank you JP, I will try that.
