they grow wild here in the southern Appalachians. It's so cool to see all those alternative names. They're also called wooley mullein here.

I'm thinking the seeds must form on the stalk after the flowers die, but I don't remember what it's supposed to look like. Ours died last year before seeding! They're listed as a noxious/invasive here, but I hardly ever see them.
