Crowing Chicken in the garden ?

Fresno, CA(Zone 9a)

I have three silkies one splash and two partridge. And I also have a modern game. The lady I got them from said you cannot tell what the silkies are tell they get older, but she said the modern game was for sure a chicken. Well the other day I went out in the garden and that little modern game chicken was having a crowing contest with the rooster behind my place. It was really going at it ! It was flapping his little wings. Its voice is cracking right now its so funny. Now do chickens crow ?

Hens do sometimes crow. No way to know until the eggs start...or not.

Hi Cherokee: Here is a pic of a modern gamehen. I can't see the full body of your bird but it looks totally different to me, though it is a beautiful bird. The game hen has very long neck, and legs...Howie P.S. in this case a modern game Rooster...LOL.

Mine is a pet.

Do they fight with your other chickens? I have regular games and have to keep all the roos apart.

Hi Cajun, no the moderns are not game, I have an adult modern game roo, in with four other roosters and none of them fight or even quible. The moderns are so small they can't even stand up to a Serama roo that wants to fight...

Thanks for the new pic Cherokee, much better pic, and I agree with you, they are wonderful pets...Howie

I wish my 2 didn't want to kill every other roo in the world. They are beautiful but lots of trouble.

Thats what I love about the Moderns. They are so loving, laid back, and peaceful. Cajun I have one that is two months old, (a roo) No kidding, I took him one a half mile walk last week and he followed me every step of the way. The only problem I had was that he behaved like an untrained dog and kept crossing over in front of me and because of my blindness I triped over him several times. His name is Rojo cause he has red hackles. My dw was shocked at how he followed, so was I...Howie

Why did the chicken cross the road? To follow his buddy around. :) Bet that was a traffic stopper. Like seeing a skunk on a leash.

Is that yours ? Its very nice. You had a silkie that crowed ?

I've got a Barred Rock hen that gives a half-crow and a Jersey Giant pullet that is trying to learn how. "She" also struts around rather cockily so I'm not so sure of ''her" gender. I really don't need a rooster.
