Feeding time

Stafford, VA

It is just about noon and Mom and Pop bluebirds are busy bringing lunch to the little ones. I tried the "multiple snap" setting on the camera to see if I could get one or both of the birds in flight either coming to or leaving the nest box. I got the male bird but never did have the camera up when the female arrived. Maybe next time. Here is papa with a bite for the youngsters.

He has just fed the young ones and is resting on the nest box.

Here he is in flight leaving the box to find another morsel.

And heading away. I need to learn to adjust the speed setting to get clearer shots of the birds in flight.

Here he is just arriving.

Here is another arrival. He has found a good supply of lunch material somewhere as I do not have any mealworms.

And one last one for now. In this mass of feathers and little pink spots are 5 little bluebirds. It is too early to see whether they are male or female.

They are 8 days old today.

Beautiful birds!. They don't open their eyes until 8 to 9 days so the one nearest the camera most likely is getting his first look at the outside world. Incidentally, the one closest to the camera is a male. Looks like two others further from the camera also are males. Can't see enough of the wing feathers of the others to tell.

Best of luck with the inflight shots. It's such a thrill when you get a good one.

Congrats on the family. You'll have lots of laughs just watching these little ones.
