Hello,
My next adventure after this worsleya is finding this plant :) I've looked high and low, anyone, anywhere have any idea where I could get one?
Pamianthe, Where?
ok josh...now....YOU r asking the impossible....when was the last time you found one for sale...other than in the UK?????
i don't know of any one in the states...except i have seen occasional "seeds" which i would not feel comfortable with.
when you do find one...please remember me...LOL!!!!
i don't know how old this is...but check it out...i didn't really look carefully

i checked the site....it says he has one..but that site could be 20 years old?? LOL
Pamianthe peruviana is a magnificent bulbous plant with up to 4 very large fragrant white flowers in a head. Campanulate corona surrounded by segments with median green stripe. Requires a min. of 50deg.F, but is happier with a few more degrees or some bottom heat in winter. Young plants also available.
£14.75
or....maybe a trip to Peru is in order???? isn't that where they came from???

I checked out tomorrow plants or whatever, I have sent him e-mails and ....nothing :(
Peru is it! I say we go :) I usually don't feel comfortable with wild "gotten" plants but in this situation, what can ya do :) lol
I can't seem to find not even seeds of this plant, I contacted telosrarebulbs and she has one herself but she said she'll never have any for sale, she said it takes 15 months for the seed pod to mature and it's very difficult on her plant.... IDK, where did these people get theirs?
i should have known you most likely looked up that site already
...peru it is!!!!!..can we stop in costa rica on the way....i heard they do cheap plastic surgery...LOL!! just wanted to get lifted and tucked on the way..;)
Of course we can :) We might as well take advantage of this trip!!!!!!!!!!! I'd like some quick nips and tucks as well! lol
ok...now i'm serious!! LOL!! i'm ready to go! can we smuggle plants out of the country....??? i can see it now....headlines
"BUSTED FOR PLANT SMUGGLING! TWO found guilty, sentenced to 50 years and now being held in the highest security Persian prison & only being fed Pamianthe bulbs"!! (and never heard of again!)
really it took me 4 years to find the right ae ae musa....when one is on a mission no one can stop them!!!
Haha, i'm sure it would be something like that!
I think we could export tho, we might need a certificate or something! If only it were a reality :)
I'm sure I'll find one eventually, probably later than sooner :) I wont GIVE UP! NO ONE CAN STOP ME!!!!!!!!!!!
ae ae's are very pretty and VERY expensive :) That seems a little more bang for your buck lol
LOL, it's like my quest for the Giant Swamp Taro that I set out on about 15 years ago. I even wrote to New Guinea, but never even got a reply. As the years went on I never got any closer.
Then about 3 or 4 years ago I saw a small plant I thought was it in a nursery. I asked and they vaguely said that was it. Took it home, looked after it while it grew bigger and bigger. Then by accident just over a year ago I found out my plant wasn't it. Not even the same genus. And also found out they'd changed the scientific name of my Giant Swamp Taro, I'd been chasing the wrong name anyway.
So the quest continued. Early last year I even went to Papua New Guinea and spent a couple of weeks trekking through mountainous jungles. But no sight, nor even word, of my Giant Swamp Taro.
On the way back I dropped into a specialist nursery in Australia for some other plants. On the off chance I asked them if they had the Giant Swamp Taro. The answer was, "Yes, sure. How many do you want?" It's now at home growing really well.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Never give up your dreams, it's what makes life so beautiful.
tropicbreeze that is a wonderful story....and you are in beautiful Australia!! where there are some of the most beautiful plant selections in the WORLD....(i'm so jealous!) ....just recently there was (and it has completely slipped my mind...easy to do these days....)
OH!!!!!!!! yes...it was a Strongylodon macrobotrys ....now to find a "real" one is rarely difficult, although logee's had them this season. however, the BEST one was in Australia but she would not ship...:(((((( i did get one, it's doing well, however, i will have to wait a while to make certain it's the true genus
now josh and i really have to work HARD to find the "strange and unusual"....
josh...i shipped a few musa out of thailand this year....but finally got the ae ae out of Hawaii...from a GREAT place. i love her!

Your banana is beautiful! I will for sure get one here eventually!
Guess what :) I searched HIGH and low and I think I found some Pamianthe seed!!!!!! I'm waiting for an e-mail back from him, we've been chatting and he's waiting on his pod to break.... He's very difficult to get a hold of tho :(
josh!! no way....SEEDS you found seeds?? (and thanks i LOVE my ae ae! and hope it continues to do well..got another leaf this morning!)!
i sooooooo scared to death of seeds because i never know what they are going to become!! LOL....waiting on his pod....ok??? LOL!!!...i will NOT comment on that one with a 10 foot bamboo pole!!
HAHAHAHAH
The only thing is he's pretty reliable, he's sold them in the past, I read through a bunch of stuff, he sales Worsleya too :)
I'm incredibly scared of seed too, I'm sure just like with any other bulb it'll take YEARS to flower :( We'll see! If they do happen to become something good and I buy enough seed.... You know what that means :)
hehehe....YES...i do....and I do sooooooooo hope you can do this....now do you have green house in your 6a zone to keep it growing????
i had greenhouses when i was in a sub zone 4....but then again i grew a lot for my business....i actually lived in a 6b....but NO way since i was in a valley and i would have frost when the entire area was blooming!! soooooo what's the plan???
how would you do this??
I have turned my basement into a greenhouse, I have lots of supplemental lighting, humidifier, heaters and fans! I winter over down there, as soon as I can, I move a lot of plants outside!
So your greenhouses, did you build them? Whats that story?
no...actually i rented them.....we heated with a wood burning stove which was approx. 15 foot by 10 feet....the greenhouses were each about 3 thousand sq feet. all the water (all tho we had a separate well) came from HUGE water tanks that were filled by rain and snow and then used....
i would grow over 10k plants a year for my business as well as store my "rare" babies."
here's a site to some of the designs.....if you want to "peek".....at some of my gardens...it's located on the middle of the page. i specialized in "tropical" design in northern landscapes...:)
http://www.glasshouseworks.com/downers.html
i grew and designed for over 20 years...my last "biggy" was designing (and changing the name) to the nj state flower and garden expo...i designed the show as well as the gardens...it was a HUGE task...as well as running the greenhouses.
now...I AM TRYING TO RETIRE...i promised my self the ones i love, the ones that love me (on occasion)...I PROMISED clean finger and toe nails...to do my hair....LOL!!! it's not working out to well tho...hehehe
I FOUND THEM, a guy from the Netherlands is sending me SEEDLINGS :) :) :) FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so so so excited :)
ok....josh...what did you offer him???? it had to be something....did you BEG?? LOL!!
Sorta :) lol
Honestly, he read one of my posts on another forum and contacted me via email. He said that he had plenty of seedlings and he'd be more than happy to send me some! We're both very fond of the amaryllidaceae family!
:)
you mean josh....u were begging again?? LOL!! i promise but please remind me...as soon as my variegated bug gets big enough i'll send you a cutting!!! just d mail and remind me...see...even i'm offering...so it just must be YOU.;)
