Postage Calculator

(Zone 7a)

Hi Everybody,

I'd like to take the time to Post this here for Newbies or Just anyone who might have not known.
Postage can be calculated prior to your trade or Postage shipment. When sending Plants for Postage the recipient can estimate how much to send the sender.

Go to: http://postcalc.usps.gov/

1. Enter the zip codes (yours, recipient, vice versa)
2. Select what kind of Package (usually can check "Package") Unless you know the sender is using a Flat Rate Box
3. Enter the weight
4. Click Continue

5. Rates and Options will be displayed

Also was hoping some of the other members can Post here On how to use Paypal. It would be much appreciated and help those that don't know.

Happy Gardening!

For PayPal (from my sketchy memory), you just get their PayPal address and $$ can be transferred from Your PayPal account. I do think that you have to be registered..a bit of an annoyance for me (just on a list of my annoyances!!!!), but since eBAy only accepts PayPal..a necessary thing for me to have to shop for family presents.

The only flaw with calculating shipping is that I like to have payment for things BEFORE I dig and pack them. Of course I have no way of knowing what a package will weigh when it doesn't yet exist, so it is difficult to 'guess' how much to charge for shipping. I don't want to over charge, it is a pain to refund 2 or 3 dollars, at the same time I don't want to be out money either.

What I've been doing lately is approximating weight. I know what I'm sending so I will ask for 2 pounds of postage. And the actual weight may only be 1 and half pounds. But I got it covered.

Newspaper, Bounty paper towels, plastic wrap, time, digging..and more goes into one package. You would think someone would be willing to pay $2.00 more for all the effort..Then You know you're safe with Postage.

Because I do a lot of trading, I bought electronic scales from the local post office. I can weigh the package and then go online to do the priority postage printout. So much easier to just hand them the box (you can ask for free pick up) and the bonus is a small discount you get by getting postage online. It has actually paid for my scales. You can always put the info in online and get the right amount for postage and exit back out so you won't be charged. It shows the price for online and the price at the post office.

Yeah! The scales are great. I received a Free one with Stamps.com

I only use Stamps.com because I sell seeds Internationally. And there custom forms and printing works best for me. So Don't run out it get Stamps.com because there is a monthly fee. But my point is..I got a nice scale for free! LOL

Yeah, when I'm sending stuff for postage I perfer the flat rate priority boxes. This way I can just fill it up when I'm dividing stuff and not have to worry about weight.

They just don't always work for me. Those boxes aren't the biggest...ya know

It is cheaper to use regular priority than flat rate unless it is really heavy, might depend on where it is going, for me shipping to the east coast seems pricey.
I agree the flat rate boxes don't hold much.
