I love this wild plant because of the color and long bloom time. I don't have much to trade but lots of cardinal flower seed.
I also have a lot of medium aloe plants.
CLOSED: wild chicory
I have it if you want it! Send me dmail.
I have some too if you want more!
plants arrived but it pretty rough shape. I can't understand it, since they were packed so beautifully. Anyway, I planted them and while the old leaves are now dead, new green sprouts and coming up and one old dead stem actually managed a bloom! So they're not and should come back nicely. Thanks
ehignutt, can you mark some plants in case I need a back up planting?
Betty
I figured they would look bad upon arrival. This plants actually doesn't have any foliage and blooms daily. The flower only last for a day. And will bloom even if cut from the main plant (roots). The only foliage is at the base and is not attractive or flourishing at all. Kinda prickly. It will reseed itself and most likely come back even though it may look bad. Sorry about that..but I dug the best looking plants. Maybe you can try itty bity little plants opposed to the Large ones I sent. I Cut the Tops because they were over 2 feet tall. It really looks like a spiky weed. I do have very small plants close to the ground like grass weeds...
Kim. Thanks for posting the pictures. I've been looking at the same flowers growing wild around here and wondered what they were. Now I know and will get some for my garden.
My patch is much smaller than Kim's! But I'll keep it marked so it doesn't get weed whacked just in case.
Very pretty. I got some at a trade here this spring and it's been blooming for over a month now. :-) It looks taller than those - is there cultivated chicory that's taller than the wild version? Does anybody know? I just love this blue.
These are taller then you may think Picture number 3 was 3 feet tall before I dug it.
I think they will be fine. I will know more when I go back to the museum tomorrow or the next day.
I have some chickory seeds, if any of you need some of them.
Oh, okay - so it's the angle of the photo. Mine are about 3 feet. Thanks, Kim.
