This is the first of my 60 years that there are no meadowlarks singing. Wondering why their numbers are down so bad!!!
gone missing
Has the weather changes effected their habitat?
I'm thinking the strange weather we've had this year has something to do with it too. I'm missing some 20 or more hummingbirds and a family of White-breasted Nuthatches that failed to show up.
Sorry to hear about your Meadowlarks. Hopefully all our birds will return next Spring.
It could also be loss of habitat. For the past 3 years we have cut our hay at least a month later than normal and the Meadowlark numbers have greatly increased. I am thrilled since I didn't know they were in our area. I hope yours return...their song in the morning is a spirit lifter.
Wish I knew the cause. The weather , maybe. Maybe the weather wherever they winter. One used to hear them all along the country roads, now just an occasional one. The dove numbers are way down, too. I'm not keeping records any more but it seems to me that there are fewer of most kinds of migrating birds. Suppose any that migrate through the Gulf area are pretty much screwed.
