Wow, 6:00 in the morning on the Oregon coast and it is already 70 degrees. Well, I absolutely can't complain now because I have been down on my knees begging for sunshine and Man O Manachevitz, did we get it. I guess it could be worse and we could be back East in triple digit weather, so thank you God for the SUNSHINE but did you have to be so intense. Heheh
I am so glad to know that someone up there is listening to me.
I won't be doing much outside this afternoon but maybe this evening. I did a little this morning but it was heating up fast so that didn't last too long.
Hope you all are enjoying some sort of sunny weather and be sure to stay hydrated by all means.
Holy Toledo, sunshine is great but this is a little extreme
Jesse's over in Pullman for freshman orientation at WSU. I escaped having to go because he went with another kid and that kid's father drove. It worked out great for us because the car I would have driven died a couple days ago and is in the shop right now. So I would have had to rent a car to take him. Not to mention how hot it must be. I guess he's getting a taste of E WA right now!
Love sunshine, don't like the heat at all. DH keeps telling me be careful what you wish for because it may come true!
Gwen, EWA in the summer is a VERY good place to have air conditioning! Just wait till Jesse gets to enjoy his first winter!
Hopefully he'll have A/C in his dorm room. He went into a frat today and said it was sweltering. I don't think the frats have A/C.
The winter will be a shock to him. He still thinks he lives in Calif - wears shorts and t-shirts all the time. I've tried to tell him how hot it gets there and how cold. Maybe now that he's experienced the heat, he'll believe me about the cold! The problem is we need to go shopping for the cold weather clothes now and he just won't be able to see that far down the road to winter and won't want to do it. I don't even know if the stores will have anything before he needs to leave to start school.
Gwen,
Just make a weekend of it and go visit about the 15th of Oct. Spokane is 1or 1 1/2 hours from pullman. My son was a transfer student so we did the orientation in March! I too have trouble with the heat unless have water for swimming. Some time in October is Dad's weekend, how is dad's shoping skills?
Gwen, they do seem to figure it out. There's nothing like freezing your a__ off to teach you how to bundle up.
Dad's shopping skills are fine. Esp since all he has to do is pay while Jesse picks out. But dad will not want to drive over in Oct. I'm married to Mr. Wimp. He'd be terrified of a snowstorm on the pass. Trust me, you don't want to be in a car with him if there's a storm. Or if he thinks there might be a storm. Hopefully it'll be so clear in Oct it won't be an issue. We've been over to Montana before in October.
But I doubt dad will not take him into Spokane. (I don't think I would either). Don't really want to get back in the car for another hour and a half after I've just driving 6 hours! But there must be stores there. I know they have a Walmart or a Target, I forget which.
Maybe give him some cash and let him do his own shopping. I started doing that when my boys were in high school and it worked great - they both very quickly decided brand names were not always that cool and also discovered outlet stores and sales racks. And I told them to not whine at me if they didn't have socks or underwear - the budget I gave them was for everything they would need. They seemed to muddle through, and it was great for me as I detest shopping (especially mall or big box). Also interesting to see what they chose on their own.
Well, it looks like another great day in paradise. I am loving this heat wave and I can take a few more weeks of this kind of sunshine. Here on the coast its really comfortable now. Keep in coming.
Bone, that's a really good idea. Will discuss this with dh.
My DD went to Whitman in Walla Walla for three years before transferring to Monmoth in Oregon. WOSC.
She didn't have any trouble adjusting to the winters or summers. Not to different from our worst stuff, just more of it. And it's a dry cold.
