Bumblefoot

Iowa Park, TX(Zone 7b)

I have a beautiful black silky rooster (4 years old) who started walking with a limp about 5 days ago and now he can hardly stand up. I never found what the problem was since his legs/feet look fine; but his right foot or leg is obviously causing him a lot of pain. Since his skin is black, I can't tell if he has a scab or not so don't know if he has bumblefoot or not (but that is what I suspect.) Has anyone else had any experience getting rid of bumblefoot? I guess I need to know specifically what kind of antibiotic to administer. I had read that it was good to inject an antibiotic directly into the abscess and then give the chicken an antibiotic orally as well. Is this correct? If so, do I inject the same antibiotic that I give him orally? I have him quarantined in a comfortable place. It seems like he misses the hens though.
Any help would be much appreciated.

This might help--it references other threads that give details of treatment. From what little I know, you want to remove the hard core and possibly soak the feet in something to help with its removal and treat the infection--as well as give antibiotics.
