hey grits i am very new myself i think that you have a Silvery Checkerspot (Chlosyne n. nycteis) i hope someone that knows more will answer your question. wonderful shot.

I think it's probably a Pearl Crescent but you should have a look. I'm not so good at IDing either.

The abdomen is very short and has some markings common to the fritillaries the marks on the back are very similar to the Greater Fritillaries but it is not near big enough maybe I need to look at another shot of the same BF
