I am looking for a cutting(s) for my wife since she has been wanting one for awhile, but they are impossible to find anywhere. If anyone has any I could purchase from you or work out a trade, either way. Thanks so much yall.
WANTED: Cutting of Vanilla Strawberry Hydrangea
Vanilla Strawberry Hydrangea is PPAF, Means "Plant Patent Applied For" - plants with this acronym on their tags can be propagated for sale only by licensed growers.
So, hopefully you won't find any. It would be illegal to trade or sell cuttings.
You're going to have to buy the plant.
wow been looking for one myself but found them to be way out of my budget like 30 or more
I didn't know it was illegal to trade patented plants. does this go for all patented plants like the proven winners? I thought we could trade and give away but not propagate for resell purposes.
I'm going to have to look up that hydrangea, sounds like a nice one.
I did a search for this hydrangea, WOW ! it's beautiful, i've never heard of this one before
here's what I came up with on the search, their high dollar to buy 30.00 or so

It's illegal to propagate patented plants period, except from seeds.
This is from Oregon State University.
"A patent legally prevents others from reproducing the protected plant variety by cuttings, tissue culture or any other method of asexual propagation without the written authorization or licensing of the patent holder. Possession of improperly propagated plants of patented varieties constitutes infringement, even if an illegal propagation was inadvertent.
Though asexual reproduction may be prohibited on a patented cultivar, there is no regulation against using the plant in sexual reproduction. In other words, the seed or pollen from a patented variety may be used without permission of the patent holder. The offspring are free of patent regulations."
I am by no means a lawbreaker, and I totally respect the law, but here is my question, how would anyone know that that was done if it is just a cutting given to a friend? Also, if this is the case, isn't probably 50% of what goes on here on this site as far as trading illegal?
I am in no ways being rude, just curious.
That's not rude at all Brandon. And you're right. Who's going to know if you go out back and take a cutting for a friend. But on this forum you're putting it in writing. And have no doubt there are spying eyes all over the place.
Understood Polly, thanks for the response. :)
You got it :) You're welcome. Sure hope you get one of those hydrangeas.
Thank you Polly, I wont stop searching until I get one. LOL
Could a forum be added that is just for certain plants that people are willing to pay for if other people can find them? I have done that in the past, I have seen someone request something and after a few days if there is no response and I know I can purchase one, I dmail that person and offer to buy it, give them the price + shipping. A couple of people have been more than happy for that because they wanted the plant so much.
I realize most people probably wouldn't because by the time you add postage it can be rather high, but on the other hand, if you order it online, that shipping is usually more. I know there are a few plants that I would love to have but can not find them locally or find anyone that wants to trade for them.
I have access to a lot of plants that others may not. Since I am very close to Florida my area offers alot of tropicals. It would be nice if there was some other way to get that 'got to have it' plant.
Any thoughts....?
I have done that too for others. buy it and ship it for price and shipping. has worked out ok so far
That is an AWESOME idea. I am all for it!
I have bought plants and shipped for others too. I agree so far it has worked out well.
If I could grow that hydrangea here, I would own it too!!!
