While I was sleeping, I woke up to find

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

Have you had any surprises this year?

I tend the gardens ever day, sometimes several times a day. I am always amazed to see things I hadn't expect to bloom.

There were trumpets galore. Over 5 feet tall, the blooms are huge.

And more lilies of all kinds and colors.

Until I ID'd this as a lace cap, I thought my hydrangea was suffering.

It's pretty early for some of these. Balloon flowers go through the summer season.

And the colors have been splended! This was a tiny monarda last season. This variety starts out with colored buds unlike my other bee balms.

Not to be outdone by the callas.

It's been so hot, irises don't last long.

In my perfect cottage garden, someting is ALWAYS in bloom. This is lots more than I expected, and there are lots more to post. We've has such unseasonable weather for the northeast, I hope we get to enjoy for the full season.

Very nice! I know what you mean about being surprised. I have just started planting daylilies and whenever a new one opens it surprises me for some reason. Especially when they are listed as a Mid late season and they are one of the first open! lol I also have Ballooon flowers starting now. I thought it was early too. I was super surprised to see my first Monarch of the season last night while I was filling a watering can at the hose, it was laying eggs on a milkweed a foot away from my head. It is such this nice surprised feeling that makes all the hard work worth while! : )
