Well, got the unexpected today, my boss comes up to me while im working with a layoff slip. That was a total surprise, and to make matters worse, I dont qualify for unemployment. So my bills are just going to pile up from now until I find work. :( What a crappy day.
Bad day at work
Sorry to hear that. With economy today any job is better than NO JOB, do not think the government see's it that way...
Lets hope and pray you can find a job quickly
Denise
Thank you Denise
What a bummer! So sorry to hear this. Praying you find a job quickly!
I am sorry you lost your job, keep a positive attitude and hunt for a new one like mad.
Things will get better.
Houston is so dependent on the oil business that when it's goes belly-up, the whole local economy is affected by the trickle down effect. Engineering has been really bad for a couple of years now, with no signs of improving. Add the horrible oil well blow-out in the gulf and the associated offshore drilling moratorium and it's not looking good for Houston. The horrendous environmental impact of that blown wellhead will last decades, and I just hope the energy industry isn't decades recovering also.
Better news is there are a few places hiring, but they're low and sometimes minimum wage jobs. My youngest son, who's still in college, got offered a job this week, but the pay was so low that it isn't realistic for him to quit his higher paying part time job.
Maybe you should post what kind of job you had, so if any of us hear of anything we can let you know about it??? Just a thought...
Good luck in your job search.

Thank you so much yall, I can use all of the prayers I can get right now. Well, I was a Pipefitter out at Chevron Phillips but I am not opposed to doing just about anything. I have even gone so far as to thinking I might have to mow yards. If anyone hears of anything it would be very much appreciated. Thanks again yall.
Check out your local library to see if they're connected to the Texas Workforce Commission's online job board.
At least unemployment benefits still have a longer payout time frame due to the economy. That doesn't much help if your bills are commensurate with your pipe fitters salary though. I'm a retired piping designer, my oldest son works in petrochemical engineering and my nephew is a pipeline heavy equipment operator. If I hear of anything happening job wise, I'll be sure to Dmail you.

Don't know much about that type of business...or how it would translate....but, the natural gas pipeline companies (around here it's Koch), always seem to be hiring...
Just wanted to add in my sympathies. It's rough out there. I hope you find something soon. Lise
Hope ya find something soon..sorry about the pink slip dept..that sucks..
Its a bummer for sure! Thank God I got SS and a little pension. The unemployment helped out, but not working I still lost 1/3 of my income ... so now no UEB .. Its ok I know it was not forever, but I bought a new car before I got laid off. My little business was just beginning to do something but its a seasonal thing. My problem is that I am 68 and the people doing the hiring is 25. lol
Healthcare is looking better though.
just remember no matter how bad it is for you someone has it worse.. I know that doesnt help bring in income but when Im really down and have worries hanging over me I sit back and remember that.. its our nature to worry but just take each day at a time and you will get thru this.
.sending prayers
I try to remember that too ... sometimes it help. :)
I just got a water bill for 260.00 Lord know what happen here! its 3 times what I normally get billed, now i am really freaking out.
Thanks so much for the nice replies yall. Things are really tough but like was already stated, it could be a lot worse. Thanks so much yall for the encouragement.
