One of our Amorphophallus titanums is going to bloom! We've had this one for 15 years and this is its first bloom. Projected time was about July 1, but it's opening NOW!

We Named Her Maladora!
44.5 inches, thats 1.130 metres high. They can get quite bit taller than that. Do you know the size, or weight, of the tuber before the bloom started? They say "Trudy’s tuber now weighs 54 lbs and fills the pot ..." Is that actually this one that's flowering now (Maladora)?
Interesting, they say it keeps it's leaf 16 months before going dormant. Mine has had its leaf 11 months so far and still isn't showing any signs of dormancy, despite it being mid winter now. Will be interesting to see what it does in 5 months time when it's summer.
I was looking at the size of Maladora's pot, probably 20 inches across. That's a fraction larger than the one mine's in. So mine should be okay in that pot for a while yet. I didn't start mine from seed but I understand it's over 6 years old now, so still a few years to go, perhaps. Seeing pictures like those makes me more impatient.
Yes, Maladora is quite small compared to others ones we've had that bloomed. I seem to remember that one was about 6 ft.
I don't know about "Trudy's tuber....." I didn't see that reference. Trudy was another A. titanopsis that we had bloom a couple of years ago, and was quite a bit bigger than Maladora. I think this might be a mistake on the part of the webmaster 'cause I don't think Maladora's tuber would weigh that much, do you?
I'm no expert on Aroids - my expertise is in the cacti & succulent areas.
