Really blooming right now.
Varg. Clerodendron - bleeding heart
Mine is going crazy, too - really reliable plant.
very pretty GAgirl
That's very pretty, I'm excited for mine to take off :)
I have Delectum, Red w/ Reddish/purplish bracts..........it's still only about 8 in. tall after freezing back last year ! I was begining to think it wasn't going to come back. Is the white hardier than the red? I've been thinking about getting it.
Mine is blooming too!
I also have the blue butterfly clerodendrum... no flowers today... butthey come and go... it's getting used to being outside again.. it was blooming when I put it out.. so no flowering pictures today.. I laso have the clerodendrum Quadriloculare... I've had it for 10 years.. and have yet to see my first bloom ... but here's a picture of it blooming somewhere.. for what I figure .. it has a short day light requirment to bloom... and by the time the days get short enought outside.. I have to bering it inside... whaere there's light on much longer than it needs to flower..
mjsponies,
I have the delectum also. Mine has been in the ground for 2-3 years now and survived the two record cold winters. Mine is about 6 ft.and the leaves are huge.
Gordan,
I have the quad also, but it has not bloomed, so maybe that is the problem, because I try to protect it and maybe it needs the cold. I may leave it out this year. I also have 3 or 4 other clerodendrons. They are one of my favorite plants.
GA.. it's not the cold.. as it's an understory plant in the Philippians.. it's a shorter light cycle... less daylight.. that spurs flowering...
So how much? The days are shorter in the winter, would that not take care of it, for me?Mine is kept in the greenhouse. I will have to do some research on this one. It is absolutely beautiful.
I don't know how much.. do you give supplementary light to the greenhouse.. or work in it in the evenings... these will lengthen the day ..folks in fl seem to get it to flower... just having it outside in the fall.. so it's likely nothing different than is naturally going on... just no additional light... from inside lighting .. or I guess street lights.. outside.. it's a puzzlement to me... as it's been about 10 years I have had mine.. summers in a bright shade/some sun on the roof... and inside about Thanksgiving.. to the extended day inside...w/ the house lighting.. I've been thinking of a closet for it... with a reduced daylight cycle... but I've yet to come up with a place...
Well Thanks away....mine stays in the GH...no street lights....no evening workings....nothing out of the ordinary....mine is only about 2 years old so maybe it needs to mature a little.
yes.. That should take care of the light requirements..for the first 5 years I was thinking it was a maturity issue.. the next 10 have been doing things to and for the plant.. without finding the combination of things that work.. but the leaves are so pretty.. I kind of don't mind.. for the ones that haven't seen it.. the leaves are green on top andblue/gray black on the reverse.. and it does so well...otherwise..
Hi all, long time no see.
Mine bloom Jan-April, so that would make it a short-day kid. If there is a cool winter, the leaves go, but they still flower. This past Winter, thought they were going to be total goners, but they did survive. (Not like some other things) They are really trees, about 15'. Love the leaves in the summer too.
TTL,
Hap
