i need an evergreen small tree to block the view and as a wind break. i was considering sweet olive. what can you tell me about this tree?
also does anyone know where to get texas kidneywood or blackhaw vibernum?
is sweet olive evergreen in north texas?
Mama, you can find Rusty Blackhaw Viburnums at most nurseries that sell native plants. But I'm not sure that I've ever seen Blackhaw Viburnums sold locally. You might call Blue Moon Nursery in Edom (I think they're out near you).
Carla
Rohde's in Garland also specializes in native plants and shrubs. No idea if they have viburnums or not, but if you can't find it closer, it's worth a call.
i know rohde's but not blue moon. i'll get in touch with both.
Just last weekend I just saw some nice rusty blackhaw viburnum's at Green Mama's in North Richland Hills. I think that I have also seen them at Petal Pusher's in Cedar Hill.
dfw...........do i need to go look at those nuseries? do they unique plants?
They both carry a lot of native plants. Petal pushers is much larger, and has a lot of hard to find trees and shrubs. I would also check with Rohde's, Redenta's, Marshall Grain, and and Weston Gardens. Those are my favorites around here for native plants.
Thanks for the info on where to buy native plants. Good to know.
patti i bet you know where everyone of these places are. we ought to go.
I don't know where Petal Pushers and Blue Moon are. The rest I know.
you never asked for us to go. we need to go in july. to find the deals.
Just pick a day and let me know.
after the 14th. i think i'll have some money then. but you know how that goes.
Another great place is Shades of Green in Frisco. I bought a Rusty Black Viburnum a couple of years ago. Just love it.
They have lots of natives for sale there.
patti tomorrow is the day. do you know of any sales?
LOL! No, tomorrow isn't the day--you know I can't do anything that fast. Anyway, I have a lunch date tomorrow. What about Friday?
The only sale I know about right now is at Calloway's, on hostas. I looooooove me some Calloway's hostas. But I don't think they have your sweet olive.
you know how i feel about hosta.
well let's wait till the sales start. when will that be?
I dunno. I went to Calloway's this afternoon over near my friend's house, and their shelves were really bare. I'm not going to go to Monday's any more (or recommend it) because it changed management and is nothing like it was before. Rohde's probably still has a lot of stock, but I never hear anything about their sales.
let's go to king's nursery. is that still a good place?
I've never heard of it.
isn't that right? maybe it's royal or queen. just kidding. really. it's not exactly in dallas. south of dallas i think.
Never heard of those either. You'll have to direct us. :)
If it is the Kings nursery I've heard of, it will be a road trip for sure! Teneha, TX near Nacogdoches? Let some of us in east TX know if you come this way. We'd join you... never have been there. Owner Aubrey King has been written up in Texas Gardener and mentioned by garden writer Greg Grant. Surely that is not the Kings nursery you are thinking of... maybe Queens or Jacks or?
king's creek nursery.......cedar hill........now called petal pushers.
