I was checking my peach trees to see what the borers were doing, and I got lucky with my timing. Underneath the gum/sap were things that looked like frass/sawdust plugs that turned out to be pupae. They were right on the surface and easy to get rid of. So I knocked out most of this year's generation without much trouble.

Peach tree borer
My daddy put a ring of moth balls around the base about four inches from the trunk . Never had borers .Adding , he buried them as the instructions say in the link you gave .

Anyone know if peach borers get into apricots?
A book I bought says to mix white latex paint 50/50 with water and paint the tree trunks to prevent borers.
I don't know about them getting into apricots, but borers will attack apple trees.
The peach tree borer we have here in Colorado might attack any stone fruits including Apricots. It attacks at the base where the roots flare out from the trunk. We have something else that causes gummy spots higher up - I'm not sure what.
