Anyone recognize this Anthurium? Very unusual inflorence.

Here is the leaf blade. While I loved the plants and the whole atmosphere of Selby the labeling of specimens left a bit to be desired. I pesonally would like to see a prominent label on evey single plant.

Notice the odd formation at the basil end of spadix.

Did you get the stem and petiole of the plant?

Louisville, KY

This looks like a hybrid of watermaliense x a birdsnest species I have seen. This odd cross which was thought impossible has been done a few times. watermaliense is one of the few species that seems to cross over to the birdsnest forms.

Here is a photo of some of these odd hybrids

Here is my plant of the cross. I have seen them all different forms from larger rounder leaves to narrow leaf forms. Most usually have some dark coloration's on the spath.

It maybe that the crosses which have been done a few times are not always the same species of birdsnest forms of anthuriums. This one seemed to be a larger cross.

It would make sense for Anthurium watermaliense to cross with other birds nest forms since it is in section Pachyneurium which contains all the birds nest forms. The spadix in your photo bears only a slight resemblance to the actual species though. It would certainly be possible your photo is of a hybrid.

This photo is of a newly emerged inflorescence.

This is a more mature form showing the reflexed (curved backwards) spathe.

These are the only images I have of the plant, as I was mostly interested in the inflorenence. If it is a cross of unknown parentage that could explain the lack of a tag.
Thanks for looking.

Brian,

I have one of those "odd hybrids" and it even sets seed for me (yellow-orange berries). I've crossed it with A. ochranthum (fragrant Anthurium), although I haven't grown the seedlings up to blooming size yet. I've also crossed it with another hybrid I have that is a combo of my Jamaican anthurium and a birdsnest type.
