Hello,
My name is Thor--yes, it IS my real name! :-) I grow all of my produce in two gardens to benefit the local food pantry and practice mostly organic gardening practices. Both gardens are in scenic settings with the one in Lancaster being right next to--almost--an orchard which grows EVERYTHING from Blueberries and Peaches to Pears and Apples. The gardens aren't huge or packed with produce, I just happen to have extremely bad physical limitations the prohibit me from working at the speed necessary to keep up with everything and there's still lots to plant, actually, including Bell and Chili Peppers, Eggplant of all colors and types, Tomatoes of various heirloom varieties, and even all kinds of flowers! I need help with the basics; weeding, letting me know if something doesn't look quite right,. pinch off suckers from Tomatoes, harvesting all types of crops, and other things integral to tending a garden. All ages and levels of experience are enthusiastically welcomed. Since I have five artificial joints and a terminal illness, I and my soon-to-be non-profit organization need lots of help, not to say I don't pitch in wherever I can! I brought in up to 2300+ lb of fresh produce to a local food pantry.
Positive Produce, the name of the soon-to-be Non-Profit Organization [501(c)3], is all about bringing fresh, nutritious produce to the hungry to provide something other than the usual canned fruits/vegetables which they would receive from the food pantry--including fresh herbs to help flavor the fresh and(or) the canned items. The director of the food program are ultra-
>One last thing the garden is in desperate need of is 15 or more 6"x6"s which are 8 ft. in length to finish a retaining wall in order to create a level garden for my safety and easier access for anyone helping. Thanks ever so much! Below is a picture of one garden prior to planting--the light's not incredible--but you get the general idea. Write me at my Email below, please. Thanks so much, you can make this year and my life so much easier and have tons of fun while learning more than you could ever imagine!

MA Gardener growing all for Food Pantry needs help, please !
Good for you! That is very inspiring. I'm too far away to come help, but hopefully there are some people nearby who will.
Thanks, I appreciate the support these days, especially--any way I can get it, indirect or direct--because my other half was just laid off and he has worked as an awesome CNA/PCT/Patient Care Associate for some 23 years.
So, thanks for the showing of support!! @>{---------- A Rose or two for you! ----------}>@
Here's a aerial shot from our Apartment Window showing the garden with the frighteningly steep right side and the retaining wall in need of timbers! The ugly, white bags are nothing other than wonderfully fertile sheep/goat/rabbit manure with the inherent organic matter---and did I mention all of the tomato seeds that came with them? LOL The bags are to put down in front of what will be a 8-10' retaining wall to fill it in and level the area off so that I can actually work there independently without the risk--and it has happened several timess--of me slipping and(or) falling down the incline or into the hole itself, egads!
Note: This is not a request for money, butl, in addition to able-bodied support--I am eternally grateful for the help I continue to receive from friends, aquaintances, and one DG buddy in the Netherlands to the garden's fund through its Paypal Account via this Email adrdress: PositiveProduce@comcast.net.
I will be seeking to become a real, non-profit agency with the help of someone who has done it himself and will need to pay some fees to get it completed within this calender year!. :-) Free at last, free at last...thank God Almighty, free to operate as a real business and have other "official" agencies help me to get help from the surrounding areas through their networks.
post an aerial vew of the garden outside so all can see one of two gardens. Again, thanks for the support!! :-)
Sincerely Yours,
I think it's a "Blue-Winged Teal."
I am pretty sure that is what it is, chickenlady. I have been wrong before, but we had those in Northern British Columbia if I'm not mistaken. Or, was it Wisconsin. hmmmmm! LOL
