Why are they so popular? Are they new or something?
Cajuns
No, they're not that new (although they do come out with new cultivars from time to time). The nursery that developed them has good distribution among garden centers & hibiscus vendors so a lot of people are aware of them and have seen them. And they're pretty, so combine that with being widely available enough that a lot of people have seen them and can get their hands on them and that's what makes them popular. There are plenty of other tropical hibiscus cultivars that are just as nice as the Cajuns but they don't have the same level of distribution so they're not as well known.
Here's a link to Dupont Nursery who are the ones responsible for the Cajun series--I think they're in LA so maybe you could even go visit if they're close enough. www.dupontnursery.com
They're about an hour or so away. It would be fun to visit.
I'm new to gardening and being a "Cajun," I was just wondering about the demand and what not. Glad we're doing something right over here.
