The hatch should have happened last saturday, only a few eggs in there not really knowing if they were fertile, nothing happened... Having read the thread throwing the baby out with the bath water, I kind of held off a few days (OK so I was lazy or busy either way you call it) This morning I woke up and heard noise in the bator, thinking I had a mouse in there and I was going to be mad... well imaging my surprise when there was a broken egg and a little peacock running around. I hurried and put some water in the bator incase there may be more....
Kenboy message me please I need advise...
Thanks
Baby Peacock

Yes Kenboy has be patiently answering my questions on Dmail, I am so happy I have someone that I can ask... This is such a hew experience
Same here except my peahen has him stumped about raising her own babies..lol..
That is so neat. Congrats.
They had some beautiful peacocks at the zoo I took my grandson to Thurs. I was looking around thinking... maybe I can find an egg. :) Then realized that would be stealing. lol Anyway, they were running free, and so lovely to see. Gorgeous birds.
Dearest Mother Nature,
I know now what my parents went thru when I was a young child. I would bring home strays you put in my path, there was the typical dogs and cats, rabbits and the different chipmunk... But NEVER did I bring home birds. You have blessed me with the miricle peachick which I still dont know how it managed to come out, but its in the living room in a baby tank, chatting up a storm. Although it has a slight deformed foot, you knew I would love it and would do my best to make it succeed in life.
But hey you have now pushed my limit. Today when you put the two orphaned baby quail in Billy's path, you knew he would marvel in the fact he found babies. You knew his joy when he caught one in his little hands, and brought it to show me. You knew I would look to see what was around the place he found them, and you knew I would find the other one, huddled behind the board in the round pen. You knew I could not let them be bird bait, and would do what I felt is necessary, as Billy Bob looked on saying Nanny we need to save them.
Running out of lamps, you knew I would borrow a drop lamp to warm them, put chick starter (Its ground up) and use a lid for water. They are as small as my thumb, and so cute...
Thank you Mother Nature for the wonderful gifts, but seriously, I am thinking that I am getting full. Who else has a baby peafowl in the living room, next to the bator that has eggs that may or may not hatch. A set of quail in a box in the bathroom, and in Billys room, 3 baby chicks and one baby turkey. Yes I understand I really need to build the outside pens, can you send me the time to do it??
Sincerely the Bird Lady of Kingman, Az..
PS Thank you very much for the valuable lessons I am able to teach Billy, he is so gentle in the handling of birds, I could not be prouder...
That is wonderful
You are so creative MissJ! Love the letter!! Too funny. What a precious household you are caring for! I have never had peacocks or quail. I would love to see a pic of them!
Amen!!!..Know how ya feel..my 5 year old grandson does that to me too whenever he is down to visit his Nana..lol..So he is raising his own chickens now...he is learning..
That is great MsJ. Who knew? That is really funny...
There is a tune in the back of my head... and a small dance.. called.... I TOLD YA SO!!! LOL
Remember when I was telling you when you so desperately wanted those eggs to hatch that you would be building pens like mad? Well.. I had no clue about the quail and peacocks.. but I knew you had it bad. Hope you are enjoying it.. You are a special woman, and I'm so tickled for you.. cause as crazy as it is, there is nothing like it. :)
Good luck with your little ones. :)
When I went to the small zoo in Amarillo last week, all I could do was look at the pens and how they are constructed. This is so contagious!
This one pen had huge round posts, with wire around it. There were boards at the top and the wire up there had been overlapped then held together with pig rings. It was really nice and made the animals safe.
See how much you guys have taught me! When I see an old western movie I'm looking at how the old buildings are put together.
I would really love to have a big pen with wooden or metal posts, with all wire on the sides and on top, and cement 1 1/2 feet down all around it. I want it 8 feet tall. Gee, I'm dreaming again.
MissJestr-I have done that also. Even my kids think I'm nuts. " Mom, mom can I keep it sends chills down my spine." My peahen has laid some eggs in the guinea's nest. I wonder who will set on them?
Last year we had chicks in the mudroom, a baby opposum on the dryer, tadpoles in my triffle bowl (who needs to cook anyway), pet rats in the living room, and the rabbit in the kitchen. It does make life interesting.
To all... Baby Quail have made it thru the first day, still little and cute...
Lat the peababy is chasing a moth that has wondered in the cage wait now taking a big drink..
BillyBob the turkey is happy, he can sit on the top perch and look down into the baby chick cage, and really has settled down
The three baby chicks are sleeping...
ZZ IT IS YOUR FAULT... LOL you know I would not trade it for the world, and the bator will be cleaned out after this and will be put away until next spring... OK well maybe Dec or so after I see how my layers are this fall. Tomorrow after a Birthday party, Billy and I will come home and work on the new cage. I gave a friend some wood and he is going to make me a door and then all I have to do is frame it out and hang it. Then BillyBob will be going outside, the 3 chicks (I am only keeping one) will go in his cage and then Lat will go in the big tank, he is growing bigger each day...
It sure is a hoot around here...
Pictures will happen tomorrow of quail and Lat...
Beautiful letter. Billy is so lucky to have you!
Update on the peachick? Mine are doing great..still with their momma..she does a good job of it...
Miss Jestr you're gonna run out of names pretty soon ^_^ Congrats on the all the new babies.
Hi D-nut! Where have you been? How are your striped flock/
Hi porkpal ^_^ I have been busy planting out my garden. O sigh I had to encourage Peppy and Peppermint to leave :( For some bizarre reason they decided to dig up my dahlias every night :O So we had a big rock party with strobe lights flashing in their front door and the Doors playing on a motion activated ghetto blaster and they decided to leave. No disco glitter ball though although I thought that would be a nice touch. So now its just me, Boris and Natasha (the jackrabbits), my wild birds and one crazy ole cat. But on an up note, WHOOO HOOO Stampede starts on Friday!
