Runner Ducks: Can Someone Tell Me About Them?
don't buy from hatchery. Neither of mine look like a runner duck. They are supposed to be very tall and upright, like a wine bottle.
Melvatoo, I've asked about runner ducks here too. Some folks have them, but don't post very often. Cottage Rose has them. I keep my eyes peeled here for any info I can find and I also check out poultry themed magazines at the TSC. When I need some eye candy to feed my lust (I plan on getting some in two years--date date is set on my calendar) I go to a couple of sites where I have found some good photos:

I'm sure others have more to tell......
Terri, thanks. and BTW I think you can call me just, Melva...we don't need to be so formal.
Why do you have to wait 2 years to get some ducks?
And when are you coming back to Denton, to see me?
And thank you for your advice, Donna.
So are Khaki Campbells considered to be a Runner Duck?
LOL, there must have been two Melvas at one time?
Two years as we need to put up a barn, then a duck house and then the ducks. Must follow the schedule and budget!
Well, aunt and all left with the very hot, humid weather. Now I must get caught up in the garden and at work. I hope when it cools off a bit I can get away!
I spoke to Dave at a round up and he says there used to be another Melva so he said they had to keep the name for her...so yes, I had to be Melvatoo....
tell me about your plans for a duck house...what will it look like?
Khakis and Runners are two very different breeds. There are a lot of runner duck owners on the duck forum at backyard chickens (byc.com). I've gotten a lot of good info there; I don't have ducks yet but will eventually.
I have a few runner hens. One black and 2 buff and white. They are a dainty duck who do stand upright like a bowling pin with legs and boy can they move!!! Mine are great mothers and sit well on the eggs covering them gently with straw when they leave the nest. They get along fine with all my other duck breeds( blue swedish, pekin, rouens)We also have geese in he same enclosure the ducks and geese get along fine but thend to seperate when we move them out to graze.
