flowers but no zuchini

Decatur, GA(Zone 7b)

I have lots of flowers on the ends of what become long narrow stalks on my greyzini (zuchini) squash plants. Does anyone know why there are no vegetables forming? We are harvesting some beautiful yellow squash. Thanks

If they're just on long narrow stalks, they're male. I won't say they're useless, they are wonderful fried, but they'll never become fruits. If you look at your yellow squashes, you'll see that some of them have tiny fruits behind the flower, these are the females, and will grow (if pollinated) into the fruit. In many varieties of squash, the male flowers appear first, and then the females. Usually still plenty of males, they just keep coming...:)
Your other issue may be pollination, but if the yellow is producing, the zucchini should as well.
One of my zucchini varieties has not yet begun to produce, but I'm sure it won't be long, and I suspect you'll find the same :)

I was just out checking mine. Little fruits about 2" long. Very soon we will be harvesting.
Another fact. The flowers are usually open early in the morning & closed latter in the day. Not sure about male flowers, but am fairly certain the females are only open a day or two.

Finally a zuchini! Thanks so much for the informative replies. I'm so late in writing this that you will probably miss it but you have both helped me learn something new. Gardening is such a wonderful learning process.

Yeah, for you! Mine are still still shooting out male blooms and aborting the few fems that show up. Boo-hiss!!!
