Hoya mysteriosa

Brisbane, Australia(Zone 10a)

My cello teacher has two hoyas growing from a pot - possibly seperate plants but she's not entirely sure. One has flat leaves, one has curled leaves. Their flowers are quite similar however, the curled leaf plant's flowers have more of a chocolately smell. Are these the same species with a reversion to wild type in one branch or two different species? Can anyone id?

Above is flat leafed plant with its waxy spots (is that normal?)

The one with the flat leaves is Hoya carnosa, and the one with the curly leaves is Hoya compacta....aka 'Hindu Rope' amongst other names.
