Last weekend we noticed that a pair of American Robins have adopted us and have built a nest on our deck. I think that this is very cool and hope to get some great photos along the way. Although I know that the parent robins are very capable of taking care of themselves, I would like to offer a few treats-would raisins or died cranberries be something I could put out? Any other suggestions? Where should I place my offering-on the ground? What about wax worms? I know that robins will readily eat meal worms in the early spring, but I have a hard time finding them locally. This is a fishing area, though and wax worms are very easy to find-do you folks think that the robins would like them? Any suggestion very much appreciated :)
Thanks!
Deb
Adopted by American Robins
Hi Deb, I offer my Robins grapes, and they love them, as for the wax worm, I don't know, but I imagine they would. I would definitly try them and see if they go for them. I've seen a Robin catch a bug in flight the other day, I didn't know they did that.
I'll try some grapes tomorrow-I know they like berries so that would make sense.
Thanks!
Congratulations -- what fun!
I'd think Robins would like any of the things mentioned.. I've had pairs who would scarf up offerings and others who would leave them for the ants. LOL
I hope you're taking pictures... :-)
Great news and how wonderful that you'll be able to watch this nest. Enjoy your birds.
Best of luck Deb! Please keep a watch out for ferel cats. I don't know if you read my thread or not, but you might want to know about the sad ending so you can be well aware. Here's the link...
