what's this plant??

i know--a picture would help but ---
i thought i was growing a big brugmansia but now this tall stalk-(red at bottom of stalk) has blooms that look ready to open--the blooms look a little like lilac or butterfly bush--but it is all off of one stalk that has opened into a y
it is about 5 feet tall--

yes! that's it alright---i like it a lot but from what i read a lot of people love it and a lot hate it! i guess it is hard to get rid of and gets the birds drunk (which sounds interesting!)
well i sure can't get rid of it--i have been watering it daily and thinking it was a brug that i should take special care of!

it is funny how some plants are called weeds but are beautiful
some are considered invasive and i can't even get them to grow!
