Help...Cattails invading my pond

Kansasville, WI(Zone 5a)

Cattails have invaded my pond. Since I have not added any plants for a few years, it has to have happened by seed. There is a swamp very close to my property and the seed has to have
blown in from there.

I really need to eradicate it Now. Has anyone else ever had to deal with this? Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

My pond has alot of waterlilies in it, and alot of big koi.

Tomorrow I will be doing a water change and dropping the water level. Hopefully the cattails
can be pulled out. Some of them are growing in with the rushes. :(

I was warned about not putting any in, that they would become invasive very quickly. You need to dig way underneath them, they are underground spreaders (as well as the seeds) I don't know if you have a natural bottom pond, or a pond with a liner, a liner will be easier to get to them. Good luck!!

The birds or the wind brought the cattails into the pond. The pond is lined, but it is
still very hard to pull anything out of there.

My pond is lined also but we were able to pull out most of it. It is just very messy. Belle

Your pond looks gorgeous though. Tons of waterlily blooms-I am jealous! I got my first bloom this morning-"attraction".

I found some baby fish in my pond today! Yay!
I also found a huge bull frog, will he eat my babies? !

I didn't know cat tails would just grow on the liner?

Ick cattails! I actually paid money for those a few years back from a TWL co-op. They quickly grew out of their bounds and became unwelcome in my pond. I had to rip them out and the only way I felt comfortable disposing of them was to lay them out in little pieces in the hottest, full sun part of concrete I could find, until they baked and dried up. Scary little buggers...

After having to move all the rocks from the wall, I was able to pull out the cattails along
with a big clump of a tall reed looking plant. It was heavy. Hopefully I have it all.

Yes Frilly the bullfrog will eat your baby fish.

Thanks to all of you.

I think Art in the garden purchased the cat tails that became so invasive.
