Bought these a couple of years ago at Lowes in a big pot, of course unlabeled. Does anyone know what it is?

Your plant is definitely a Colocasia, but since that genus is not my specialty, I can't give you the species without researching it. Brian Williams might recognize it right away; hopefully, he'll chime in with his ID.

Yes, Colocasia. Can you show the undersides of the leaves? Close-up of the stems?

Sure, be right back.

As I said before, these were in a pot, but the ones in the photo are from runners that came out of the pot. The leaves are approx. 12-15 in, and they are a little darker than they look in the picture.

Thanks for the photos!

I believe it is a type of Colocasia antiquorum, but don't have a clue as to the cultivar / variety.

OK thanks. Its a pretty color.

At first look I would think most people would say it is Colocasia illustrius. It does look like it can could possibly be it. My opinion is that it is the newer cultivar called Colocasia Coal Miner. Coal Miner was named by Tony Avent and it came from a nursery out of the Himalayas as illustrius. Once grown out it was noticed that it was different than the illustrius we have here in the states. It has the same dark leaves with green veins but the lines seem thinner and just a slight over all differences in the two plants. They can be very hard to tell apart for most people and still hard for me in photos. If you have the two plants side by side you can tell an immediate difference.

Here is a photos of Colocasia Coal Miner to compare with your plant.

Here is Illustrius which is very similar

Last but not least is Colocasia Black Beauty which was one I named several years ago it was a mutation off of illustrius with very dark leaves and little to no veins usually noticed by the green dot in the center of each leaf.

Thank you Brian, I had thought Illustris, also, but it was so dark, so maybe that explains it. I do have a illustrius in a pot so I will compare side by side. Thanks again.
