Roadside Native Mallow

East of Nacogdoches, TX(Zone 8a)

This beauty is growing in uncut grass and weeds along a road east of Nacogdoches. I may try to harvest seeds or maybe try a cutting. I am thrilled by this gorgeous plant!

Anybody know about this plant?

I believe what you have is Hibiscus moschuetos, Crimsoneyed rosemallow, this type of hibiscus has many variations and comes in different shades of pink and white and sometimes all pink.

I love the native hardy hibiscus too.

It's mostly too dry for those out here, but a few of them and a bunch of their less soggy relatives have really burst out in bloom here the past couple of days.

I have better luck with cuttings, fwiw, but the seeds are easy enough to see, you just have to remember to come back and get them.

I drove by the plant again today and have made an effort to mark in my mind where it is. I would dearly love to grow several of these plants. Some of these would be a great r/u offering.

Thanks frostwood and realbirdlady, your info is much appreciated.
