Hoya Placing

Arroyo Grande, CA

Do I grow my Hoyas inside or out they are just little rooted plants and I see people seem to grow them together...Is it best to grow them together meaning right next to eachother../Thanks ,Dalette

I'm in Canada so it's a bit of a different situation.

In the summer I put them outside on the screened in porch (for maybe 3 months). In the house I put them wherever there is room. They don't seem to care if they aren't with others of their own kind.

If you do put them out, put them in bright light only in your area...they won't likely tolerate your strong sun.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

My hoya grow outside all year. If the temp goes below 45 degrees, I bring them inside. They are under the lanai and get some early morning sun. Here in central Florida it is humid most of the year and that helps if I forget to water them. It would depend also on what variety of hoya you grow. Some are considered cool, some are considered warn. There are web sites that can give you the information. Maybe someone on this forum will chime in.

It might be good if you start off by listing the names of the Hoyas and people can give more specific information. Mine grow outside all year, they're under trees. Most get good shade most of the day and then some sun at the end of the day before sunset. One is growing up a dead tree, half in sun, half in shade most of the day. Only the shady side flowers.

Forgot to mention another one growing in a rockery and in sun most of the day.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Here in east TX I have mine on an open porch with only bright light exposure. I agree, I would not put them in direct sunlight and it will scorch the leaves. Last winter was the first time in a GH and the temps dropped to the high 30s, low 40s and the Hoya did not protest.

I agree with Tropicbreeze, do you know which Hoyas you have?
