Mexican "Hibiscus Water" (Agua de Jamica), which variety?

Douglas, GA(Zone 8a)

I recently bought a "Strawberry Sunset" hibiscus from Lowes (source: www.costafarms.com). I've been collecting the flower pedals and was wondering whether I could make "Agua de Jamica" with them. For those not-in-the-know, Agua de Jamica is a Mexican beverage brewed from hibiscus flowers with sugar. It's nice, kind-of a fruit punch or cranberry juice flavor.

Any ideas what variety people use to make this delicious drink? Are mine safe to try?

Thanks so much!

Here's an example of the dried flowers: (http://www.amazon.com/El-Guapo-Hibiscus-Whole-Mexican/dp/B0035YIVE0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=grocery&qid=1276463879&sr=8-3-spell)

Hibiscus sabdariffa is one that is used to make that type of drinks http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2113/ The Plant Files entry lists one vendor who sells it if you're interested in getting one. Your 'Strawberry Sunset' is a cultivar of H. rosa-sinensis--most likely it wouldn't be poisonous if you tried to make tea from it (although make sure to do a little homework first before you experiment) but I doubt you'd get the same flavor that you're hoping for.

Thanks for your help!
