What are these anyway?

Alba, TX(Zone 8a)

Each spring my entire 2 acre yard is covered with these little pink flowers. They smell like cotton candy. This is a close up. Once they get going they really fill in and the whole yard looks pink. And the honey bees are in heaven.....Does anyone recognize these?

They look like some kind of lily, but I can't tell. Can you post a close up of the flower and one of the foliage?

Gosh, I want some just from your description!

Sorry, got interrupted and forgot what I was doing! Here is a close up.

I believe it is called Lace leaf Spring Beauty, Claytonia lanceolata

Check it and see if you agree.

Right on target....I believe! What a beautiful flower! Are the limbs/leaves succulent....like portulaca?

Terri ~ I love your description. Claytonia virginica blooms here every spring. http://davesgarden.com/community/journals/viewentry/183253/
But I have to admit I've not noticed a fragrance. Next spring, help me remember to get down on my hands and knees and sniff. I am a fragrance nut. LOL

There are many Claytonias and it could be Claytonia virginica instead of lanceolata, I actually have no experience with that flower.

If I recall, you helped me ID mine. I do appreciate your assistance Josephine.

Are the leaves and stems succulent?

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Mine aren't, if you are asking me...

I wish my yard was covered with those...course the DH would just mow them down anyway. They are pretty little things.

Thank you so much, guys! I'm not really sure if you would call them suculent-like. The leaves look like little tiny daylily leaves. They last about a month and then they are gone. I just love them! But you can't wear sandals during bloom time because of all of the bees! The lawn mower would skim right over the top of most of them, but we don't worry about it as it isn't really time to mow when the claytonia are in bloom anyway. And podster, DH can't smell them either. It might be just me and the bees.....At any rate, I now have DH convinced that we can't do the usual weed and feed because I don't want to harm the little guys.

Good going on convincing your DH! I have a patch of phlox that is growing larger every year. It looks ugly when drying and dying but I can not bring myself to mow it till later in summer and am rewarded each spring. Need to start some of these guys in the phlox patch. 8 )

DH doesn't even notice when I change hair styles. I installed ceiling fans in our house and he did not even notice until we went to sell the house. But he does notice our little claytonias and now looks forward to them every spring. The high winds this spring destroyed the wooden screen doors on our back porch. I'm ordering some heavy new ones off the internet. Well see if he notices those ;~).
