Year old hosta seedlings

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

These are from seeds I received from friend's streaked breeder program. I have no idea what the parentage is. Already pulled all the striped ones out so all I have left are these green ones(but I thought I saw one w/ a little stripe). Have no idea how big they will get.Sown 4-5/09

See my wish list or make an offer. These are NOT for postage. Newbees and/or if you have no feedback..you will have to send your end first. Getting ripped off seems to be happening too much lately. I raise plants for farmers market to suppliment our Social Security and I can not fill your gardens for free.

How do you start your seeds? I've tried many times and had no luck with hosta seeds.

I scatter them over the seed starting mix then cover w/ med.grade vermucilite. Usually sew them from March thur April.....sometimes early May. Move into shaded area of the greenhouse once sprouted(or outside in shade w/ lattic bottom plant tray ,flipped over them and secured to keep squirrels from digging in them, keep watered but not soggy.

Well i've got some that have been in pots .. some covered, partially covered and completely covered, going on 6 weeks with no sign of germination. I'm about to give up.

they can be a little slow to germinate sometimes

Ok .. I won't give up on them yet.

didnt know hostas had seeds . are they in the bloom ? how would i germinate them? i know thats probably a silly question but i really wanna learn more of this

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

Yes,mine are in bloom. They're also a good hummingbird plant. They don't always set seed and then I've had some set seed and be so ready to get started they'll sprout while still on the plant in the pod...Blue Angel has done this for me more than once. I've also started many seeds that I received in trades. I have some darling tiny hostas in my gnome garden that I started years ago from a trade of Tiny Tears(I think I remember that parent plant corectly). I ahve several trays of streaked and gold foilage seedlings started from another gardeners streaked breeder program.
