Are Mandevillas considered tropical? They kinda look it. I bought one last year in the clearance bin at WM in a 6" pot. I now have it in a 5 gal. black nursery pot and it is flowering profusely this year. Now, the ones I have seen at the stores have tendrils and vine up a support or are in hanging pots, put still have those tendrils. Mine do not. I was thinking of transplanting it into a bigger, nicer looking pot, but don't want to tempt fate.
Well, I checked the plant files and see it IS tropical but it does show it as a vine.
Mandevilla
It is a twining vine - there are no 'clinger' tendrils on a Mandevilla, such as there are on Passifloras and other vines.
I'm using a metal trellis, so what's the best way for it to 'cling'?
You will need to 'help' it twine around the trellis if it doesn't do it on its own, but it most likely will.
Thanks?
You're welcome!
I have to apologize... that was supposed to be and ! not an ? . . .clumsy fingers on cell phone key pad... again..
THANKS!!! for the information!
I just transplanted mine, so hope it does not go into shock. I am keeping it in the exact same location. Do not want to tempt fate, as it appeared to be happy there before. So, I guess I need to put some kind of trellis in the pot to train it to go up. It seems to just send out more branches and get fuller by itself, as opposed to growing much taller.
Will it survive as ground cover! Need something hearty in a common area with no foot traffic...
No, it will not be ground cover, I transplanted it from one pot to a large one. It was all one sided, facing the sun, so I also turned the pot around and stuck a couple other small plants in there.
