A friend gave me some Dahlia tubers that have been in a room temperature container. One is trying to sprout, and I was wondering if I should put them in the refrigerator till spring, or can I go on and plant them. I have always loved the look of Dahlias but have never tried them before. Do we get cold enough (Hempstead) for them to do well in my cottage garden? Or will I have to treat them as an annual?

What to do with Dahlias?
I have had some in the ground for several years, now. I am far too lazy to dig them up, so they have lived on their own. They hav multiplied, so I think you can plant them. I do give them afternoon shade.
