What is this sound? This is in a heavily wooded area where my husband and I were walking and they only make the noise when it is dark. Listen past the crickets. You can hear them at first scoot over to about 1:20 and they start making other weird noises. My husband says things like this eat people. LOL

Cicadas? frogs?
I hear frogs. Is it the eeheeheeh (LOL) sound your talking about? LOL Sorry, just trying to make sure I picking out the right sound LOL
I'm not sure, because I don't know what tree frogs sound like! LOL! (that's my problem) I listened to it again but can't tell if it's eeheeheeh...LOL it's like a rattling kind of noise, then it sounds like a duck. LOL
Are there natural gas wells being drilled near your home? Could be sounds from the pumps.
ROTFLOL.... I think your 'duck' sound sounds like eeheeheeh to me LOL If that's it then it's frogs. LOL
Maybe someone else will chime in and give their thoughts also. LOL
Hey, I just saw that you live in Burleson, you can go up there and listen to them for me! LOL I'm hearing them on the old road from B to Crowley on the hill before it dead ends. I'm pretty sure they aren't ducks (lol) but am a city girl and surprised to learn they are tree frogs! From the freaky noise they were making I thought maybe they were bats!
thanks LouC, but it's one area I don't see a well and these are definitely IN the trees
OH! That's just up the road a bit from me. I grew up here and we used to go hang out up on the top of that hill when I was a kid. In those days there weren't any houses around there, you could see the WHOLE town at night from up there. LOL I'm pretty sue what your referring to is the frogs but I'll swing by there and listen. I grew up 3 blocks from what is now Kerr middle school. I've lived here all my life. I remember when we had only 1 red light LOL.
Wow, you have been here a long time! I've been in B since '79, grew up before that in Crowley. We live just down the hill a few blocks over from Frazier Elem. and have a route that we walk the dog, which includes up the hill and down that road to the dead end, and since it's been so hot we've gotten out later and it's been getting dark. I've had a good time going up there listening and taking my son and his friends up to hear the sounds. They have vivid imaginations!
Sounds like tree frogs to me.
Are you talking about the rattling sound? I am not sure what that is. I will be watching to see what someone might say it is.
It's frogs, definitely not cicadas. As far as I know, cicadas don't make their noises after dark, as least I can't ever remember hearing one during the night hours. Frogs for sure. The sounds that drive me nutty (admittedly a short drive) are the squirrels when they start their screeching in the spring. It affects me like fingernails on a blackboard.
Crow
Do you have to have Adobe Flash to play the sound? I get a black screen and no sound when the link uploads. I'd love to hear the sounds and learn the steps on how to use this application.
Can you help me get past the dark, silent screen?
I hope this link works. This is a great place to visit. I found it several years ago.

Thanks for the link, Annette_M.
Wow! Great site, it worked great for me. Hope Paige will let us know what she thinks. I was thinking bird, but hadn't ever heard a tree frog either.
The tree frogs in my yard sound like really loud dripping sounds. When I first heard them, I was inside the house and they were muted enough that I actually thought that I had some sort of plumbing problem. After a few minutes of searching, I realized that the sound was actually coming from outside rather than within the wall itself. :)
These are the strangest things! They are getting louder and there's more of them now, or more making noise. Last night almost all of them were making the duck noise and I would hear the rattle just every once in a while. They are SO loud but kind of rhythmic. I do think it's less annoying than one lone cricket but I would hate to live by them. I'll try and make a new recording tonight.
A plumbing drip sound would drive me crazy! This time of year I have to listen for sounds of water running because I will forget my soaker hoses are running!
Did any of them on the link sound like those you are hearing?
If you filter the search to show only treefrogs it is simpler. Then listen to the Cope's Tree Frog sound.
