That's just lovely! Does it have a special significance or is it simply a pretty design?

aw, thanks you guys (and gals)!

yes, i did design and paint it myself. i mentioned once before i think that i have some pa dutch heritage, as well as celtic. i've always focused on the celtic but ever since i moved from pa to nm i've missed the dutchie influence and wish i had learned more about it when i had the chance. so i've been researching hex signs for a long time because i remember them all over the place when i was growing up. my parents say they are not so common now. a lot of them have been painted over or the barns torn down. made me so sad. so i decided i needed one, even though NO ONE out here has them and most people don't know what they are, to honor that part of my ancestry.

as far as meaning, yes this one does have meaning and is spiritual, however many barn signs no longer have meaning or have very little and are essentially "good luck charms" even though in the past they were more than that for some people. basically i took several traditional symbols and combined them in a new way, and added the eggs since that is specific to my needs - i've never seen one before with eggs so that isn't traditional. if you're open minded about spirituality and want to know more details about the meaning, please email me and i'll be happy to share more.

It's beautiful! I used to see a lot of them too but not anymore. Thanks for a bit of history, I always wondered if there was a special meaning to them.

D-mail coming your way.

This is the sign that Cerridwenn painted for our coop. She does beautiful work, heavy wood, beautifully painted & weather sealed, we just love it! Thanks again, Cerridwenn!!!!
