that's how they start out the season sometimes. remember that you can get leaves on tips with inflos until the new branches appear at the base of the inflo.
Tucson
i can not understand the lingo what do you mean? can get leaves on tips with inflos. thank you, Bellie
oops! that should have been, "CAN NOT get leaves on tips with inflos until the new branches appear at the base of the inflo."
bellie, technically the answer is no. all plumeria grow normally comes from the tips. once an inflo starts at the tip any new growth will have to branch out around the base of the inflo. then, those new branches will push out leaves. just look at your plumeria that are bloom or have bloomed and you will understand.
Okay, Bellieg, I am very envious! I ordered in that same coop and haven't seen any signs of blooms yet. Mine seems to be very healthy (in a pot) and grows 18-24 inches a year. But it's still just a stick putting out new leaves. :(
I think my plants were mislabeled, my plumie that bloomed looks more like 'Kaneohe Sunburst' according to DG file pix's...now I can't wait till the other one blooms so I know for sure!
pbtx,
i have 2 more with blooms and might open in few days. I think I bought 8 from that coop and bought more from Dutchlady the same year. The ones from Dutchlady has not bloomed but growing fast. i just repoted all my 40 + plumies and because they grow huge I am worried our sun room will not hold them. DH had not complained and I have to make sure that the arrangement is not an eye sore. He is so proud of how the yard looks.. i am glad that he is showing interests on how the yard looks. stay tuned for more pix. Belle
Okay, tell me something. I read something the other day that mentioned a plumie Y. I didn't know anything about that. Do they have to Y like brugs before they'll bloom? Cuz I still just have one growing tip.
they will not Y (i.e. branch) until they bloom or the tip is damaged. just give it what it needs and blooms will come... : )
Okay, I'll try to be patient. Thanks. :)

lily - what's your weather IN weather like right now?
Actually I started five seeds last year and four of them all had branches at about four months. I posted pictures somewhere about them. I don't expect them to flower until next year but they are all branches. They had no tip damage.
hi peony,
that is true. seedlings will spontaneously branch when they are young. i didn't mention that because i was talking about cuttings. thanks for bringing that up.

Beautiful, Bellie!
Okay, I'm getting an idea here. You see that big pot in your picture, with the biggest plumie? That's the size my cutting is growing in. Only my cutting is nowhere near that big. Maybe I overpotted it, and it's still spreading out in the pot?
I took a look at it yesterday--I can tell exactly how much it grew each year. Looks like it grew about 18 inches last year. Another 18 so far this year, and still going.
I ordered few 18 inches with 2-3 branches but they are growing fast.I feed it 10-10-10 and now just osmocote- sp?? . i am very please on how they are growing. I have one more with buds. Belle
