I've been giving my bales haircuts the last few days, and keep finding little white blobs of bubbles under and in the bales where the grass was growing. For some reason I think they are insect related, but my feeble searching has been a bit slow, and no success yet, maybe because I can't figure out how to ask the right questions.
Here, I hope that my description will let someone figure out what I'm seeing.
I'll have photos of my HayBale Garden in the next day or so, if I can just figure out how to get them from "there" to "here"
Blobs of Bubbles. Friend or fiend??
Spittlebugs? I don't know if that is even the right name for them. They lay their eggs on the sides of wildflower stems here in Wisconsin. We've always called them "spit bugs" or "spittlebugs" ... they seem harmless in the wild, but I've no idea about a garden!

Hey, it's a start! I'll try looking for that. I know I've seen them before. but old age, ya know....
Thanks!
LOL, spit bugs are not just in Wisconsin. Think those things are everywhere. We have them too. Don't think they hurt anything, just obscene. LOL
If this is of any help, here is a link to what the bug looks like and also a picture of what the foam, bubbles look like
