Is this a keeper?

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9b)

A patch of this popped up in my yard. Can anyone ID this? And, is it a keeper or not? right now the plants are about 6" tall. Thanks in advance. .Lynne

it is this plant. It can take over your garden if you let it. I have it in my garden but because they don't get watered(arizona sun) they don't get out of control.

I'm only seeing two "regular"-sized petals on yours, Lynne, not three. I think it might be Commelina erecta instead.
http://www.bio.utexas.edu/courses/bio406d/images/pics/com/commelina_erecta.htm has a good picture of the little white third petal.

Either way, "keeper" is up to you. It's native, so there's not any sort of risk from an invasive non-native. I like them.

I believe they are Commelina but not coelestis.

yes. I stand corrected. thanks realbirdlady for the link. that is the plant I have which to my garden as a free volunteer. I love the color though.

LOL Kenboy :)
there is a saying: Good friends think you are a good EGG eventhough you are cracked. Glad to see you all ignoring my cracks. :)

I got this in a pot accidentally with narcissus at a RU. I accidentally pulled it out the other day and wish I had not. It has a beautiful blue flower. I really love it. I can only hope it comes up somewhere it dropped seeds.

Often called Day Flower this plant is extremely invasive in the Houston area. I consider it a thug and remove every last one I can find. It spreads everywhere and you must pull the entire claw-shaped root. Eventually, the root gets large and can be quite difficult to remove.

I know some people don't mind this plant, but I really loathe it.

I used to not mind having it until I started developing more plant varieties. Now I do pull it up as I see it. It doesn't get extremly invasive but it isn't showy either. If it had more blooms I might tollerate it better.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

It's extremely invasive and the roots go really deep, so it's hard to pull it up from beds where you don't want it. I'd get rid of it asap. I've got it everywhere and cannot manage to eliminate it, no matter how hard I try.

I have several plants of different kinds I wish I could eliminate but when they take a hold they don't let go. Here is one of the worst I have. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/38214/

I have packrats in my garden that eat up plants like that.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Can you send me some of them to eat mine? Pretty Please?

Scottsdale, AZ(Zone 9b)

you can have as many as you want. the trouble is they also eat tons of other plants, furniture cushions and also steal decorative marbles, plastic name tags ...etc. Do you still want them ?

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

No thanks. :o)

I was overjoyed to see this flower (that I had not planted) blooming in my yard as it is so very pretty. But then more and more and more came. I started pulling them out as they had became very invasive. I live in McAllen, zone 9b.

I had taken some from my Aunt's house many years ago to use as a ground cover. After a year and it starting to grow up my foundation, I had to start trying to get it eliminated. It will still pop up in some areas from time to time. Each segment will root if in contact with the ground.
